Pollywood Shorts 2004

Pollywood 2 premieres on Sunday 28 March at the Classic on Queen St, 7.30pm before screening at galleries throughout Auckland. Nationwide exhibition is planned for later in 2004.
Continuing on from the success of Pollywood - the celebration of Pacific Island Short Film that screened throughout NZ galleries and venues last year - comes Pollywood 2 -
A new compilation of short films that showcase the talent of local Pacific Island filmmakers.
Featuring an eclectic mix of films, from drama, to comedy to documentary, this programme celebrates the diversity and talent of locally based Pacific Filmmakers.
“Pollywood 2 is not just an excuse for a good night of entertainment - its about exposing the great talent of Pacific filmmakers - people who are getting out there making great films at the leading edge of creativity” says Craig Fasi, curator of Pollywood 2.
A feature of this new release is the New Zealand Premiere of the controversial doco “The Other Day in Paradise.”
Produced by artist’s John loane & Andy leleisi’uao with Direction from Markerita Urale, currently on exhibition at the Asia Society Museum on Manhatten’s Park Drive in New York. This documentary of an Audio-visual installation held at the premises of K’Rd sex shop The Den, pushes the boundaries of contemporary Pacific Island Art. Exhibiting work by Nicholas Netzler, Shigeyuki Kihara with producers John & Andy. The Other Day in Paradise, reclaims ancient Pacific Island sensuality and sexuality”.
Also featuring the Pacific Underground produced short film - Talula talula, ” the only surviving Pacific Silent movie is a romantic comedy that will leave you in stitches as two fobby men try their hardest to win the heart of a beautiful island maiden”.Directed by Barbara Carter.
The Pollywood Shorts series have been created to showcase the work of our Pacific Island artists and filmmakers. and to inspire and display the talent that local Pacific Island Film makers have to offer.
