    Pollywood Shorts Four06
    Now into its FOURTH YEAR! An Entertaining and Insightful collection of Pacific Island short films showcasing New Zealand-based Pacific Island talent. Set to screen in various community venues around Auckland.

    Pollywood Shorts FOUR06 curated by Craig Fasi of The Moving Image Centre promotes short films starring, written and directed by New Zealand-based Pacific Islanders.

    Featuring Niue - This is your Land, written and directed by Mella Lahina, a third generation NZ born Niuean female surfer, who visits her Island of heritage for the first time - only to discover there is no surf on Niue.
    Also featuring All the Time, written and directed by Jerry Tauamiti, a touching story of a Father’s struggle with his Christian faith as his son falls terribly ill. (full programme details bewlow).

    Celebrating ethnic diversity, the traditional Pacific Island art of story telling becomes part of the contemporary realm. Pollywood Shorts FOUR06, via the medium of film, aims to share stories, ideas and life experiences of our Pacific Island people.

    The Pollywood Shorts FOUR06 premiere is to be held at the Moving Image Centre in Newton, 17 Galatos St, Sunday 12 March @ Gold Coin entry, then screening across Auckland at 5 other community venues. Following the premiere, the 5 screenings are all FREE!! The Museum screening is FREE but is subject to the normal Museum admission donation ($5).

    A selection of the writers/directors will attend each screening and will speak about their films and briefly answer questions from the audience.

    Pollywood Shorts Four06 is just one of 42 activities that make up Celebrate Pasifika, a crossregional initiative between Auckland City, Manukau City and Waitakere City which seeks to build and promote the celebration of Auckland’s pacific cultures.

    A Palagi district nurse and a Samoan woman whose husband is dying reach out to each other and try to bridge the gap between their cultures. When the nurse receives a special Samoan hat for helping Mrs. Mafua’s family, fate intervenes and threatens to ruin the delicate balance of their relationship.

    In Your Absence, 2006, 5mins

    Two women. One falling out of love, the other falling in love. In Your Absence is an exploration of the beginning and ending of love. It is a visual display of two sides of the same story. In Your Absence is the most private of glimpse into the lives of the two women. There’s no narrative, no dialogue. It is a film that encourages the viewer to subconsciously fill in the details (names, places, reasons, excuses ) by using their own personal experiences with love to piece together a story that best fits each woman. This is a film that will appeal to anyone who has loved.

    Completed as an end of year project at the New Zealand Broadcasting School, Jerry Tauamiti’s film All the Time, tells of a father’s struggle with his Christian faith as his son falls terribly ill.

    Niue - This is your Land, 14mins

    A third generation NZ born Niuean Female surfer, visits her Island of heritage for the first time only to discover there is no surf on Niue. But Mella’s visit opens her eyes to the Islands other beautiful qualities, the magical water, warm people, and clean unpolluted land. However she also discovers the low population has left the countries future hanging by a thread. This documentary is a record of Mella’s journey to regaining her identity and first steps at becoming part of the solution in Niue’s restoration of itself.
