One of the genuine greats of electronic music over the past two decades, Luke Vibert comes with a well-deserved rep for groundbreaking gear from all worthwhile points of the musical map.
Whether it’s saucy swung instro-hop a la Wagon Christ, sharp acidic delicacies in the YosepH mold or the still unrivalled gloriousness of Plug’s drum’n'bass diversions, the codename Vibert is a guarantee of something special. You only need to peep the 3 labels he is most commonly associated with; Ninja Tune, Warp and Rephlex to know that it’s all about the quality, even though he’s no slouch in the quantity department either.
On his first visit to NZ he briefly shared the stage with longtime compadre and fellow Cornish cut crusader, Aphex Twin, throwing some angular shapes and decidedly deviant rhythms into the BDO dance tent.
This time it will be unrestrained good Vibertations as Luke takes centre-stage with an audio visual extravaganza (including gratuitous old telly action - you’ll see) that will fry your eyes while your ears sizzle. A proper, non-festival, AV assisted headline performance in NZ is long overdue, and to miss out on this would be foolishness cubed.
Flipping from collaborations with legendary synth pioneer Jean Jaques Perrey to psychotic solo acid work-outs or lush down tempo audio slices with drop dead melodic movements, Luke is able to add fresh perspectives and uncharted dimensions to whatever he touches He’s the architect of monstrous musical masterpieces like Throbbing Pouch, Big Soup, Musipal, Sorry I Make You Lush and Drum’n'Bass For Papa so who knows what future favourite goodness and exclusive excellence he will be throwing down. Rest assured when this boundary-busting, champion of the underground and his many aliases roll into town it’s game-on for good times and full speed ahead for freaky futuristic fun, miss it at your peril!
