Wake, 2003

    Opening November 13th, 2003
    6.30pm at the MIC gallery.

Wake is a video installation which presents three states of wake; behind a boat, after a funeral, and after sleep.

The two spaces encountered in the wake installation, the projected space, and the physical space, are two different realities, and the viewer moves somewhere between them.

If the projected cinematic spiral staircase is the transitional space between up and down, height and depth, life and death, and we no longer believe in death, the spiral staircase must then be never-ending? It is an infinite middle space.

The layout of the wooden platforms adheres to the principles of the cartesian grid, like the city dweller the viewer in the installation no longer has the position of the privileged eye, and is instead half buried in the space.
