Mirror Me, 2008

28 Mar - 3 May 2008
The MIC / Toi Rerehiko Presents Mirror Me by Shona McCullagh and Michael Hodgson.
Filmmaker/choreographer Shona McCullagh, local AV legend/composer Michael Hodgson and composer John Gibson have been collaborating for over 10 years on a variety of projects. The long-standing collaboration between Shona and Michael is a result of their shared interest in the relationship between sound, movement and image. Shona’ CNZ Choreographic scholarship allowed her to involve Michael in exploring interactive software and its relationship to the moving body. A subsequent collection of scenes was created which culminated in a series of installations, which they continue to improvise with in projects such as Mirror Me. Passionate about the body’s ability to communicate in ways words cannot, Shona shifts towards moving installations provides an opportunity for the audience to become the work itself.
Michael Hodgson and John Gibson provide a soundscape to move to and be moved by. Mirror Me also premieres the launch of the first of McCullagh’s limited edition interactive art works and screenings of her latest short film, which integrates both film and dance by utilizing interactive software in a piece titled Mondo Nuovo.
