Dot_IV: Sean Kerr / Kim Fogelberg
Dot_IV Sean Kerr / Kim Fogelberg
Creators of minimalist digital pattern work. Cycles of endlessly repeating dots, challenging bass kicks and direct video.
Dot_IV for two screens is part of Sean Kerr and Kim Fogelbergs’ ongoing series of minimal dot video/films looking at the visual/aural aesthetic of video.
The work may be considered almost non-representational with little or no meaning. Dots just keep on repeating, with small audio samples, creating an endless loop of visual / aural cacophony.
The installation plays upon the beauty of simplicity. With little else going on, the viewer’s mind wanders into their own contemplative space. The work shares the Lye ‘Direct’ philosophy from being created within an Inferno compositing engine, with no external sampling.
‘Dot_IV reflects my fascination with musical structure and the association of sound, images and repeating loops…’ says Sean
The Dot series is an ongoing project, which has so far included Internet works, video installation and a live VJ presentation at the Ignite Digital Symposium in June.
Sean Kerr is an Elam Masters Graduate who currently lectures Interactive Media at the School of Design and Fine Arts and Music at Massey University in Wellington. (www.seankerr.net) His collaborator since the start of the Dot Project is Kim Fogelberg an Inferno editor working with Digi-Post in Auckland.
